MetriServe Web Analytics Benchmark Shows Firefox Momentum Slowing, Opera Gaining
Brussels, Belgium, November 2, 2005 -– The web browser usage benchmark published by MetriServe Web Analytics (www.metriserve.com) for the month of October 2005 shows Firefox is still slowly gaining market share, but Opera is now the fastest growing browser.
Microsoft is still the market leader with 86% market share for Internet Explorer, down a quarter point in the last three months. The Mozilla Foundation comes in a distant second with a 8.8% market share, up 1% in the last three months. Noteworthy is the big market share gain for Opera, up 12.6% in the last three months. This coincides with the decision of Opera Software to offer its browser for free without advertisements.
The benchmark reflects the browser usage for a random sample of one million visitors to the web sites of MetriServe Web Analytics' customers. The web sites were chosen to span the shopping, entertainment, news and travel categories. Trends were calculated over a 3-month span. The full results can be found at http://www.metriserve.com.
